The Director General of Oil Exploration Company, from the Work Site in Diwaniyah: Our National Expertise is Steadily Progressing Towards a Promising Oil Future
Under the directions of the Minister of Oil, the expert engineer Basim Mohammed Khudhair Al-Abadi, in confirmation of the approach of field follow-up and in support of the efforts of the staff working at the seismic crews sites, the Director General of Oil Exploration Company, Dr. Osama R. Hussein, conducted on Tue. 19/5/2026 a field visit to the Fourth Seismic Crew of the Field Operations Division in Diwaniyah Governorate to review the progress of work at the seismic survey project for 7th Exploration Block, for MDOC and the operator, the Chinese CNOOC company, within the annex of the 5th Licensing Round.
During the visit, the Director General reviewed the technical program details and implementation phases of the project. The crew started its operations on 5/5/2026, within a program of 180 days, covering a 3664.44 km /length. The Director General also met with the Governor of Diwaniyah, Mr. Abbas Shua'il Al-Zamili, where they emphasized the importance of joint cooperation and providing the necessary support for the success of oil and exploration projects that contribute to supporting the national economy and enhancing development opportunities in the governorate. The Governor expressed his interest and direct follow-up to implement this important project.
A meeting was held with senior staff in the governorate to resolve some outstanding issues with the Directorate of Antiquities and facilitate the work of the seismic crew. The meeting resulted in putting swift solutions that will expedite the seismic survey operations for this project.
During the visit, the Director General affirmed that “the national staff at the Oil Exploration Company continue to implement major specialized projects with efficiency and competence, and that what has been achieved today in Block 7 represents an important step towards enhancing exploration activity and opening new horizons for the development of oil and gas resources in Iraq.”
At the conclusion of his visit to the Governor, the Director General emphasized that wherever the Oil Exploration Company is present, prosperity follows, and that it is hoped that, after the work of the Oil Exploration Company, the first phase of oil operations, the province will become an oil-producing province.
The Director General was accompanied on his tour by the Assistant Director General for Technical Affairs, Mr. Abbas M. Ali, and the Manager of the Field Operations Division, Mr. Haider H. Aboud.
