The Oil Exploration Company Held a Technical Workshop on the Exploration Study of Wasit Structure

Under the directions of the Director General of the Oil Exploration Company, Dr. Osama Raouf Hussein, as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance technical cooperation and data integration among relevant parties in the exploration and production sector, the Oil Exploration Company hosted on Wed. 8/10/2025  a specialized technical workshop to discuss the exploration study of Wasit Structure.

The workshop was conducted by the Assistant Director General, Expert Hussein S. Awda, with the participation of representatives from MDOC, the Reservoir and Field Development Directorate, and the operator of Badra Field project.

The workshop included a review of the initial scope of work presented by the field operator, which determining the location of the proposed exploration well within Wasit Structure. This determination is based on a comprehensive geological and geophysical analysis, encompassing a study of potential reservoirs and the petroleum system, in addition to comparing the structure with adjacent areas using seismic data interpretation.

The data showed promising indications of structural and stratigraphic hydrocarbon traps, reinforcing the hypothesis of depositional environments conducive to the accumulation and transformation of organic matter into hydrocarbon reservoirs. This is particularly significant given the structure's proximity to several producing fields, giving it considerable strategic importance.

During the workshop, the oil exploration company affirmed its full readiness to support the project by providing all available technical data. This will contribute to minimizing the risk associated with drilling the exploratory well and expediting the study's completion.

In conclusion, all parties agreed to proceed with the exploratory study, recommending the establishment of a precise timetable for its completion according to the highest technical standards.
